Forest North Battle of the Bluebonnets 2/26

2014-2015 Battle of the Bluebonnets Contestants:
Gabriel, Elizabeth, Aiden, Natalie,
Sebastian, Abiha, Batool, Neeharika

Congratulations to these amazing students (and also to Ms. Bell, Mrs. Stewart & Mrs. Koester) who read all 20 of this year's Texas Bluebonnet Award nominees!  What a reading feat.  Congratulations, everyone.

We did a Kahoot with 35 questions, then took a paper quiz for the last 5 questions.  After these 40 questions, (and a couple tiebreakers!) we had our team moving forward to the RRISD Battle of the Bluebonnets.  Those students are: Elizabeth, Abiha, Natalie, Sebastian & Neeharika!  Congratulations, everyone!

Gaston: Making Poodles with FCC

Have you read Gaston by Kelly DiPucchio and illustrated by Christian Robinson? It's the story of a puppy named Gaston who gets lots of training from his mom to be a proper poodle.  His sisters are named Fi-Fi, Foo-Foo, Ooh-La-La, and Antoinette. What happens when they meet a group of rough and tumble puppies at the park?

In the library, we read the book, then made our own craft poodles with cotton balls and elmer's glue.  Very sophisticated, no?  Oui!

Alphabetizing with First Grade

First grade learned about an important library skill this week- alphabetizing!  After alphabetizing ourselves by last name in a row, we moved onto alphabetizing cards.  We had a fun activity where we worked in partners to alphabetize cards.  Check out Mrs. San Miguel's class organizing the cards afterwards to get them ready for the next class.

Bluebonnet VIP Breakfast

Third graders who read 10+ Bluebonnet books, and 4th & 5th graders who read 15+ Bluebonnet nominees were invited to eat breakfast in the library on 2/11.  Mrs. Fournier & Mrs. Vetter, library staff, served our students a delicious, nutritious treat.  Students also got a free book to take home.

Texas Bluebonnet Award Winners Announced!

3rd-5th grade classes crowded into the library this morning to find out the announcement of the Texas Bluebonnet Award winners for this year!

As usual, the Forest North winners were not the same as the state winners!

Check out this video for the announcement of the state winners, featuring the outgoing members of the Texas Bluebonnet Award Selection Committee, including me!

Kindergarten Book Club

We had so much fun getting together and celebrating Snowballs by Lois Elhert at our final Book Club presentation on February 2nd!  During school, we had a special reading of the book by Kindergarten readers to an audience of Kindergarten and PreK.  We also had special fruit snacks during the reading!

On the night of Book Club, students came in with their families to get their books to take home forever, eat dinner, make and take crafts and snacks, and all got a special favor to take home made by our wonderful PTA parent volunteers!

To recreate our crafts, feel free to check out our Pinterest board we used to develop our book club.  We had a lot of fun, and hope you did too, Eagles!
