Birthday Book Club!

Mrs. Vetter, Mrs. Young, & I invite you to join the Birthday Book Club! It's a great way to honor your student's birthday, and will brighten the day of countless students for many years.

A couple years ago, the McNeil choir came to sing for a Bluebonnet Fun night, and one of the choir members grabbed a book off the shelf.  She showed me the customized bookplate inside - it was her Birthday Book from 2003!  I thanked her & her family for donating so generously, because that book still gets checked out all the time.

If you'd like to leave a legacy of reading at Forest North, we invite you to join the Birthday Book Club!  Flyers go home during the month of your student's birthday, but you can join anytime.  Just click on the flyer & it'll take you to your own copy to print. We really appreciate your support!

Library Lessons Underway!

There is lots of learning underway in the library!  This week, 3rd and 4th graders learned about parts of speech like nouns, verbs, and adjectives.  We played games to reinforce our learning and to have fun.  We sorted nouns by person, place, thing or idea by walking around the room.  We acted out verbs like "march," "sing," and "wiggle."  Next, we did a mad lib about pizza to make a silly story with our own adjectives and verbs.  They were so funny!  Stay tuned for what gets learned next in the library!

142 Bluebonnet Books Already Read!

I am astounded daily by our amazing students and the incredible teachers that support them.  We only put the Bluebonnet quizzes up live on the network last Thursday, and already our students have passed 142 quizzes!  Our first reader to qualify for the voting party on 1/29 is Gabriel in 3rd grade.  Great work, Gabriel!

Bluebonnet Award Program Starts This Week!

Nearby classrooms heard multiple cheers today as 3rd-5th grade classes celebrated with me in the library - "It's Bluebonnet Day, it's Bluebonnet Day!"  I was singing that even as I brushed my teeth this morning.

I'm so excited to kick off another awesome school year of the Texas Bluebonnet Award here at Forest North!  We go big here at Forest North when it comes to TBA - we always have almost 100% participation.  Our readers astound me every year!  Get more information about this awesome award below, in our parent tip sheet (click for full-size view), or on the TBA website.  Get more information about how we do TBA at Forest North by clicking on the embedded Prezis below for the appropriate grade level.

Forest North Staff Book Club Picks "Go Set A Watchman" for September 2015

Wow, readers!  This month marks our staff book club's 25th choice.  That's a lot of reading!

The FNE Staff Book Club started in 2011.  We read a book each month, chosen by a vote, and meet a staff member's house to discuss it, and announce the next book.  Our September title is Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee.  This author is special to me because her other book, To Kill a Mockingbird, is one of my favorites, and I named my daughter Harper in honor of that book!

The Library is giving away a free copy of Go Set a Watchman for staff members.  To enter the contest, leave a comment with your last name and why you love the FNE Staff Book Club!
