Now Seeking Fall Library Leaders!

Interested students in 2nd-5th grade are all cordially invited to apply for Library Leader positions.  This is a program of student volunteers who work in the library to keep it running smoothly.

Library Leaders applications are due 9/11 - only two students will be selected per class, and typically we have about 60 applicants.  We will have two students serve each class in the fall, and an new crew in the spring, to maximize opportunities for interested candidates. We have a grading rubric that we use with completed applications to see which students are interested in making book reviews and helping other students in the library. We're looking for students who can work independently, get great recommendations from their classroom teacher & have great customer service skills. We need dependable, reliable workers with good attendance records who will volunteer once a week before school to help customers find and check out books, and manage checkout for their class. We encourage you to make sure those applications are complete and returned before the deadline!

Sound like something you'd like to do?  Get the application by clicking on the photo of the application, or come grab one in person from the Library.

Library Leaders

Mrs. Fournier was thrilled to kick off Library Orientations this week!  I already saw Kindergarten, 2nd grade, and 5th grade classes. 1st, 3rd & 4th grades are all coming next week.

Students in 2nd-5th grade are all invited to apply for Library Leader positions.  This is the new incarnation of the program formerly known as Fournier's Friends- student volunteers who work in the library to keep it running smoothly. There are some changes this year to the program to help streamline it and make it more effective for both the students and Mrs. Fournier!
Library Leaders applications are due 9/15 - only two students will be selected per class, and typically we have about 60 applicants.  We will have two students serve each class in the fall, and an entirely new crew to serve each class in the spring, to maximize opportunities for interested candidates. We have a grading rubric that we use with completed applications to see which students know how to alphabetize, put numbers in order, and know how to help other students in the library. We're looking for students who can work independently, get great recommendations from their classroom teacher & have great customer service skills. We need dependable, reliable workers with good attendance records who will volunteer once a week before school or recess to help customers find and check out books, and manage checkout for their class. We encourage you to make sure those applications are complete and returned before the deadline!

Fournier's Friends Recruitment Video

Thanks again to the amazing 2011-2012 Fournier's Friends student volunteer crew for their awesome job in this video! I couldn't have asked for a more talented, witty, sharp, fun group of kids! Miss you, buddies.

2012-2013 Fournier's Friends Selected!

I'm so excited to announce that we have a fresh, new crew of Fournier's Friends ready to work in the library this school year.  We had many applicants, and it was a very difficult decision to choose which students would get one of the spots. I considered whether the application was turned in on time, and whether or not the students answered the questions correctly on the application. I wanted to choose students who were already familiar with finding books in the library on a certain subject, how to put a hold on a book, and the sections of the library. After that, I looked at whether students were already involved in a lot of other activities, whether they have a history of being responsible with their library books, and what their teacher recommendation indicated.

Thanks so much for applying, and congratulations to my new crew of Fournier's Friends. Mrs. Dickinson and I are excited to see you at our first meeting!

In other volunteering news, thanks so much to Dondi Bradley, Steve Howland and Brittany Gonzales, three parents who have already logged multiple hours shelving books. We have had a staggering increase in circulation this month compared to previous years, and while this is great for our library statistics, it means we have even more books to get back on the shelves for our students. Thanks to these three parents, hundreds of titles are already ready for another student to read. I really appreciate your help, parents! This frees me up to be able to teach your students lessons about Language Arts, library skills & technology skills they need to be successful.

Future Librarian? Apply to be a Student Volunteer!

This will be the second year that the Forest North Library will participate in Fournier's Friends- a group of 3rd-5th students who work in the library to keep things running smoothly. Last year's participants had a lot of fun!

We anticipate many applicants, so apply early and make sure you get your materials in on time - the deadline is September 10th and 3:00 PM.  Turn in 3 items: an application filled out by the student, a teacher recommendation, and a parent permission form.

I can't wait to hire some new library helpers and train them to be book ninjas!

"The Grinch Who Moved Library Books"

The Forest North Elementary Library is excited to have a group of student library aides this year called Fournier's Friends, because they help Mrs. Fournier, the librarian. Fournier's Friends are a group of dedicated students who work in the library. We wrote, filmed and edited this movie together. Thanks to Dr. Seuss for inspiring us with his book "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas." This movie aired at our Dr. Seuss' Birthday Party at Forest North on 3/6/2012.

Barnes & Noble Book Fair- Guest Blogger, Mrs. Lajaunie

If you didn't make it to the Barnes & Noble book fair on December 3rd, you missed a great time! We made $3,000 for the Forest North library in one day! That equals a lot of new books for our library. Mrs. Fournier planned a day full of exciting events to keep shoppers entertained.

The day started off with a teacher dog parade. Even the rainy weather couldn't keep Forest North staff and their furry friends away. Next, the entertainment moved indoors where the Forest North choir, led by Mrs. Hermansen, serenaded shoppers with holiday carols. The fun didn't stop there! Shoppers were then directed to the cafe where they could enjoy an exclusive red or blue frappuccino (Forest North colors, of course) while enjoying the 4th grade Poetry slam. Thanks to Mrs. Albin, Mrs. McCollum and all of the brave 4th graders who shared their poetry. The walls of the cafe were also decorated with beautiful art created by our very own students. Ms. Bell hand-picked some of her favorite art pieces to display. Meanwhile, amidst this flurry of activity, some dedicated parents and teachers volunteered their artistic skills to paint kids' faces. Then once again, the fun times moved outdoors. Ms. Potral and her Jumpin' Eagles drew an impressive crowd as they wowed us with their jumproping talents.

A HUGE thanks goes out to all of the Fournier Friends who hosted story times, greeted shoppers, held posters and gave our Forest North stickers. We couldn't have done it without you!

We appreciate everyone who came out to support our school. Forest North Eagles rock!!
