Check out this video I made to share our 2014 Camp Bluebonnet session! Thank you again to all of our FABULOUS campers for participating in our 4th Annual Camp Bluebonnet! I’m looking forward to another incredible camp session in 2015!

Camp Bluebonnet 2014

This week, 30 campers from across RRISD came together for a really fun session of Camp Bluebonnet! This was our 4th year having this great camp over at Great Oaks Elementary, and as always, we had a blast. We read 5 of this year’s Texas Bluebonnet Award nominated books together, and had SO much fun in the process! The kids who attended camp are already qualified to vote for their favorite nominee in January, before school even starts.  Amazing, huh?

I teach this camp with Mrs. Kupersztoch over at Elsa England Elementary.  She is a photo editing genius and made all these great photos from camp for our blogs.  Her blog is amazing! Thanks for doing that, Mrs. K!

Earth Day Book Swap 2014

Happy Earth Day, Eagles!  We celebrated by having an Earthy Extravaganza - we had our usual Earth Day Recycled Art Projects & Book Swap, but also debuted the Karaoke Sing-a-long this year.  How fun!

We set a new record with 784 books swapped out!  Students got to refresh their home libraries, get some new books with a little higher reading level, and have fun to celebrate our planet Earth.

Battle of the Bluebonnets recap

Big congratulations to Emory, Abiha, Deepak, Ashlyn, Joeun and their coach, Archita, for getting 38 out of 40 questions right at the 4th annual Battle of the Bluebonnets- that's 92.5% correct!  They tied for 5th place with 3 other schools.  The top 4 schools (including the 2014 winner, Greak Oaks) only got one question wrong!  Congratulations to all of the hardworking readers around RRISD, and a special thanks for Superintendent Flores for cheering on our students from the audience and to KVUE for lending us their anchor, Brian Mays, and doing a piece about it on air. RRISD Battle of the Bluebonnets 3/20 @ England Elementary

After THREE tiebreakers, the final team for the RRISD Battle of the Bluebonnets has been determined.  Thank goodness, because I was running out of things I could ask questions about! These readers have far surpassed my personal knowledge of these twenty 2013-2014 Texas Bluebonnet Award nominees! Their studying and re-reading has really paid off. I am hoping they can bring the traveling trophy back to Forest North for a second year in a row.  We'd be the first school to ever achieve a two year win!
