Earth Day Book Swap in the Library

Our Forest North Earth Day celebration was a blast this year, as always!  We had singalong karaoke, a Recycled Art Contest, a book swap (every FNE student took home a free book - for keeps!) and played Litter Bug tag. 

Students were encouraged to bring their own books at home that they were tired of reading, or were too easy for them, and swap them out for some new.  Some students just took home one new book, and some students took home dozens! We ended up giving away FOUR HUNDRED SEVENTY books today! Check out this video!

Happy Earth Day, readers!  We celebrated this year by having an reuse, recycle marathon session of fun.  In the Library, we hosted our 5th annual Earth Day Recycled Art Contest & Book Swap, had our 2nd year of the Earth Day Karaoke room, and debuted some Earth-themed PE games as well.

We set a new record with over 800 books given to kids to take home.  Each student got to take home 2 books as a gift from the library which we accumulated through donations and Mrs. Fournier's work on the Texas Bluebonnet Award Selection Committee.  Students were also encouraged to bring books from home as well to swap out for additional texts!  Students got to refresh their home libraries, get some new books with a little higher reading level, and have fun to celebrate our planet Earth.

Happy Earth Day, Eagles!  We celebrated by having an Earthy Extravaganza - we had our usual Earth Day Recycled Art Projects & Book Swap, but also debuted the Karaoke Sing-a-long this year.  How fun!

We set a new record with 784 books swapped out!  Students got to refresh their home libraries, get some new books with a little higher reading level, and have fun to celebrate our planet Earth.

Earth Day Book Swap!

It was our third annual Earth Day celebration in the Library. We hosted the Earth Day Recycled Art Day Contest, and Book Swap. We encourage two things on Earth Day in the library- reading, of course, and the concept of reusing, reducing, and recycling. Instead of throwing out a book, we allowed children to swap up. We set a new record when a whopping 499 were swapped! We had almost 30 entries for our Recycled Art Contest as well.

Earth Day Book Swap!

The Earth Day Book Swap was a giant success! An overwhelming majority of students participated in the Earth Day "Renew, Reuse, Recycle!" Book Swap! Students brought gently used books that were too easy for them, or didn't want to reread, and swapped them for a brand new book to take home and keep! It was a win win. Mrs. Fournier is so happy with how it turned out, and hopes to celebrate Earth Day the same way next year. Happy Reading!

Book Swap

The Art Department and the Library have joined forces to co-host an Earth Day Festival! There are two fun activities happening- you can choose to participate in one or both!

Want to refresh your home library? Bring gently used books between Monday, April 18and Thursday, April 21st. On Thursday, students can come back to shop- bring one book, take one book. Bring 5 books, take 5 books! This is a great way to show our students we can reduce, re-use and recycle.

There will also be a gallery walk happening in the library that day. This is the 2nd annual Forest North Recycled Art Contest. Bring art made of objects found at home that incorporates reusing and recycling!

Below you will find a flyer with all of the information for both projects. Feel free to print a copy to use as your registration for the Art contest. Each art project will need to have the bottom portion attached to the project so that we know who wins and who to return the projects to. All participants win a prize, and 10 lucky winners will be selected to come celebrate in the library with a special prize pak full of earth-loving goodies!
